العمليات الأساسية في عمل العقل البشري

الآليات الأساسية في عمل العقل البشري تعتمد أساسا على مطابقة الأنماط أو بشكل أكثر تحديدا تمييز الأنماط . في لحظة الانعكاس الذاتي البشري ، تحدث أوضاع و خبرات جديدة تتم محاكمتها مقابل خبرات مختزنة تتم استعادتها . يقوم الذكاء حينها بحفظ الخبرات الجديدة مع الخبرات القديمة بشكل منفصل دون مزجهما ، لكن من الممكن للذكاء أن يقوم بمزج ، أو دمج أو ترتيب هذه الخبرات و الإدراكات و المفاهيم و الخبرات . هذه العمليات هي ما تدعى عملية الاستنتاج reasoning . يقوم علم المنطق بدراسة عملية الاستنتاج هذه . عملية التعقل في عملية الاستنتاج هذه تتم عبر الوعي (حسب رأي الفيلسوف نيد بلوك)
يقوم الخيال بمهمة أخرى متميزة عن مهمة الاستنتاج و الذكاء . فهو ما يمزج الذكاء الاستنتاجي بالمشاعر ، الحدس ، و العواطف emotion خاصة الأمل. بهذا يعتبر نوعا من التفكير اللاعقلاني معتمدا على وجهة نظر و آراء الشخص الخاصة .
