تأتي أهمية علم النفس التطبيقى فى من ان الاسر تلعب دور في نشأة المرض النفسي سواء لاسباب وراثية عائلية او لاسباب اضطراب المحيط الاسري . كما ان لها الدور في العلاج من حيث توقعاتها للشفاء ودعمها اثناء العلاج وتقبلها للمريض بعد العلاج . فاسرة المريض تعاني ماديا ومعنويا نتيجة مرض احد افرادها مما ينعكس بالتالي في طريقة رعاية المريض او اهماله او نبذه او عزله مما يزيد من شدة المرض ويقلل من الامل بالشفاء . لذلك كان التفكير فى هذا البرنامج

علم نفس النمو
تنمية القدرة على توجيه الأفراد في مُختلَف مراحل النُّموّ، كما تُتيح إمكانيّة قياس مُختلَف مظاهر النُّموّ وِفق مقاييس عِلميّة، ممَّا يُساعد على تصحيح الشذوذ في النُّموّ، سواء كان من الناحية التربويّة، أو النفسيّة.

الصحة النفسية
تكوين سليم للأفراد ، وعلاجهم ، ووقايتهم من العيوب السلوكية او النفسية في مراحل نموهم المختلفة
1-فهم الذات : فالفرد الذي يتمتع بالصحة النفسية هو الفرد المتوافق مع ذاته فهو يعرف ذاته ويعرف حاجاتها واهدافها .
2-التوافق : ويعني ذلك التوافق الشخصي بالرضا عن النفس وفهم نفسه والاخرين من حوله .
3-الصحة النفسية تجعل حياة الفرد خالية من التوتر والإضطراب والصراعات المستمرة مما تجعله يشعر بالسعادة مع نفسه .
4-الصحة النفسية تجعل الفرد قويا تجاه الشدائد والازمات وتجعل شخصيته متكاملة تؤدي وظائفها بشكل متكامل متناسق .
5-الصحة النفسية تجعل الافراد قادرين على التحكم بعواطفهم وانفعالاتهم وبالتالي تجعلهم يسلكون السلوك السوي ويبتعدون عن السلوك الخاطئ .
6-أن الهدف النهائي للصحة النفسية هو ايجاد اكبر عدد من الافراد الاسوياء .

التوجية والارشاد النفسى
العمل مع الفرد لتحقيق الذات والعمل مع الفرد يقصد به العمل معه حسب حالته سواء كان عاديا أو متفوقا أو ضعيف العقل أو متأخرا دراسيا أو متفوّقا أو جانحا، ومساعدته في تحقيق ذاته إلى درجة يستطيع فيها أن ينظر إلى نفسه فيرضى عما ينظر إليه.

القياس والتقوييم النفسى
تحديد الخصائص الشخصية والنفسية والعقلية للإنسان وتصنيفها؛ بهدف التعرّف على مختلف جوانبها وتبيّن المتغيرات المتعلقة بها؛ وذلك للوصول إلى القوانين التي تحكم سلوكنا وقدراتنا العقلية بوصفنا أفراداً، وبالتالي سلوكنا الجمعي بظواهره النفسية والتربوية والاجتماعية.

مهارات التواصل والتأثير
المهارات المستخدمة في الحياة العملية، والتي ينقل بموجبها الشخص أفكاراً أو مفاهيمَ أومعلومات لشخص آخر عن طريق رسائل كتابية أو شفهية مصحوبة بتعبيرات الوجه، ولغة الجسد وعن طريق إحدى وسائل الاتصالبغرض التأثير الايجابى الفعال المثمر.

علم النفس الإجتماعى العائلى
دراسة مراحل تطور ونمو الأسرة ابتداءً من الأسرة النواة والتي يتم تكوينها من الزوجين والأبناء حتي وصولها إلى الأسرة الممتدة التي تتكون من الأبناء وأبناءالأبناء ،ويقوم علم اجتماع العائلة بدراسة الظواهر التي تحدث داخل محيط الأسرة، وشكل النسيج الاجتماعي داخل الأسرة.
